We had barely visited Pontes’ latest venture LB’s Market House on 12 South, but walking by it today, we saw that it was short-lived. Butcher paper covers the windows, with signs saying that something called Sloco is coming soon. Sloco has a Facebook page, with some info and intentions for the new place, like bike delivery and a “virtual” butcher shop.

Bella Napoli Pizzeria is coming to Edgehill Village soon. (It’ll be in the same development that houses Taco Mamacita, but tucked in the back.) It promises to offer “authentic” Italian pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven . There’s a paucity of good pizza and Italian food in town, so this is more than welcomed news. But we’ll have to wait and see if they’re catering to the nearby college masses or serving up good Italian pies and pasta.

We were just informed that the new restaurant replacing Mirror on 12th South is to be named:  the Blind Pig.  According to rumor, it’ll be a high-end, gastopub-by BBQ joint, opening in mid-June, which is to say soon.   As we discussed this at the Taproom, we realized an unusual Nashville pattern:  the penchant for food establishments to name themselves after an animal, qualified by an adjective:

-Blind Pig

-Smiling Elephant

-Silly Goose

-Frothy Monkey

-Flying Horse

-Red Pony

-The Wild Cow (thanks to Nancy Vinneau for this one)

We’ve heard word and it has now been confirmed that Arnold Myint, owner of Chah Chah and Suzy Wong’s House of Yum will be on the upcoming season of Top Chef. This information comes to us via Nashville Bites.

Word on the street is that transactions have been completed:  folks associated with Watermark and Tayst are taking over the Mirror location on 12th South.  What genre and concept of restaurant is being kept a secret, but we do know they’re planning on building a cooking pit in the back.  Cooking pit?

Word has it that Tabouli’s on Belmont Ave. (between PM and Cha Chah) will soon become a Mexican eatery.  Our field agent, The Suit, did some investigating.

There were similar rumors a few years ago that the folks at Radius 10 were going to convert Tabouli’s into a Mexican restaurant.  Radius 10 is no longer, and it’s unclear who will be running the new joint.  We’ll keep you posted.  Conversely, if anyone hears anything, let us know.
